Dr Emmy Bretag has been a practicing GP for 13 years. Whilst Emmy enjoys the full range and variety that General Practice offers, she does have three primary interests, Women’s Health, Mental Health and LGBTIQA+/Sexual Health.
Dr Bretag has extensive knowledge of reproductive health issues ranging from contraceptive advice to the management of menopausal symptoms including prolapse and genitourinary syndrome of menopause. She conducts screenings and tests and follows through with the results from diagnosis to treatment and management and is thus well versed in cervical and breast cancer management.
Dr Bretag was mentored by and worked with a prominent sexual health physician within the LGBTIQA+ platform and has comprehensive knowledge of LGBTIQA+ Health, including but not limited to HIV Services, sexual health, mental health. Dr Bretag is also a prescriber of PREP.
Emmy has worked for many years as supporting mental health in hospital and in the community. She has a wealth of understanding of mental health disorders, diagnosis, treatment, medications, side effects and managing polypharmacy in people with comorbid mental and physical health conditions.
Emmy plays the guitar and sings, as she loves music. This is one of the strategies she employs for her own resilience and well-being, and she is passionate about discussing the non-medication strategies people can use to support their mental health.
